High Tea Inspiration at Bakken met Passie **** & Aan de Amstel*****

It's been some time since I posted. Apologies. It's been a hectic month. Shooting in Auckland then change of job. I'm now finding my feet and can update you on my latest finds. First up are 2 cafe's that give the Bakkerswinkel a run for their money, 'Bakken met Passie' and 'Aan de Amstel'.

My new work place is in the Pijp, and already lunch has taken on a whole new dimension...a good dimension. There is so much variety here. My favourite discovery so far is Bakken met Passie. This is an awesome cafe and bakery. As I stepped into the bakery my first words were 'Wow!' and with the sound of French customers I was almost transported to a bakery in Paris. It's the perfect place for lunch with a range of sandwiches, salads. They also do breakfast and have a huge array of high tea inspired cakes and pastries. I fear for the waistline.

Across the Amstel and not far from the Pijp is another discovery for me.....Aan de Amstel. Aan de Amstel is a breakfast and lunch cafe part owned by food stylist, illustrator and author Yvette van Boven http://www.yvettevanboven.com/ . Aan de Amstel recently supplied High Tea for my birthday at home. All was perfect, from the array of delicately prepared sandwiches (yes without the crusts) to the many homemade cakes. There were scones with cream and Aan de Amstel jam, upside down pear cake, Tarte Tatin, Dundee Cake, to the best cheesecake my guests and I have ever tasted. Absolutely amazing, and I can't wait to go back and try Sunday brunch with a fine Bloody Mary. Thank you Sophie for preparing everything. It was amazing.
